Hot bodies and eating cake just don’t go together or do they?
Here is what happens when a body – any body, hot or not, eats cake:
You’re putting a lot of simple carbs (sugar) and highly refined complex carbs (white flour) and quite a bit of saturated fat (butter and possibly cream cheese in the frosting and maybe the recipe for the cake calls for these things too) and protein.
Will cake cause the instant energy spike and crash? No, because there is a lot of sugar in cake but there is also fat and protein. Protein and fat help slow the release of glucose into the bloodstream preventing insulin spikes and drops.
Will cake calories be instantly stored as fat? No, calories won’t get stored as fat unless you’re consistently eating too many calories from all of your food choices, including foods that you were told are “healthy”!
What about other bad things we’re hearing and reading that eating cake can do to our bodies? Can it cause cardiovascular disease? How about memory loss or impaired immune function? The only way eating cake may be able to have such devastating effects on your body is if it was all you ate. If cake is eaten by a normally healthy individual (no diagnosis of diabetes) as part of a diet that consists of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and healthy oils cake will not do bad things to health.
Why are there such dire warnings about the dangers of eating cake and foods similar to cake? For example, the author of this article YOUR BODY ON CAKE makes serious warnings and backs up the predictions with reliable sources.
Read the article carefully and you will see that the reliable sources are used to back up her warnings by taking them far out of context.
She writes, “That’s according to a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, in which researchers found that people’s white blood cell counts were reduced for up to five hours after they ate one hundred grams of sugar.”
I don’t doubt the research, but 100 grams of sugar is a mighty big piece of cake!
Now, for a word about hot bodies!
Hot bodies come in all shapes and sizes. Hot bodies are an attitude that comes with feeding it well and keeping fit and strong through a variety of entertaining physical activities. Hot bodies are defined by the owner of the body, not by casual observation of other people.
Can you have a hot body and eat your cake too? Absolutely!
