Lose Weight! Don’t Eat That; Eat This!

Losing weight is easy when you don’t eat the wrong stuff and eat the right stuff.
  • Too bad determining what to eat and what not to eat isn’t easy.
  • Too bad we get conflicting information about what to eat and what not to eat everywhere we look.
  • Too bad lists of forbidden foods seem to tell us we can’t eat the things we love. When we eat them, we feel guilty. When we feel guilty, we tend to continue to behave in a manner destructive to our health and weight-related goals.
  • Too bad we don’t have reliable science to help guide us about what to eat.
  • Too bad much of the “science” that warns us about wheat bellies, grain brains, and the dangers of sugar (yes! Americans do eat a lot of sugar and no! It’s not the same as a heroin or cocaine addiction.) further confuses us with its apparent scientific validity.
  • Too bad so much of this information is junk science.
  • Too bad it’s opinions and theories and sometimes hidden agendas that really have nothing to do with nutrition science and spread by people who can’t cite their sources because they truth is, there are no credible sources to cite.
  • Too bad it’s about scare tactics and/or making a lot of money!

Here is a simple pictorial to help you make smart choices to lose weight, be well-nourished, satisfied, and happy while avoiding guilt or confusion!

Don’t Eat That!

Pizza is okay, even pepperoni pizza is okay! Eating a whole pizza isn’t okay.

When having pizza, try to keep your serving to one or two slices. Add a big salad to help balance your meal and fill you up.

No reason not to enjoy a steak dinner from time to time, but since the red meat can be a fairly high source of fat, and saturated fat at that, save the heavy sauce and the fried for a different meal.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Enjoy some fresh vegetables with your steak and reduce the size of the fries portion.

If you really want to eat it, you can. There’s even “white, soft whole wheat” bread available in the supermarket. Who wants to waste calories on this tasteless stuff when there is so many better bread varieties to enjoy?

Bread should be more than something to hold your meat and cheese in a sandwich. Bread should be able to stand on its own merit and if it’s boosting your nutrition too because it’s made with whole grains, all the better!

Go ahead and enjoy a dessert from time to time, but don’t eat too much dessert all at the same time.

It’s been said that the first three bites are the most satisfying. Since desserts are usually high in fat and sugar, reduce your dessert servings to about 3 bite-size.
