What I Love About Losing Weight (and Maintaining it, too!)

Of course losing weight is about stepping on a scale and seeing a smaller number, but that’s not what I love most about losing weight.dreamstime_l_40819547

The things I love most about losing weight can’t even be measured on a scale.

Here are the things I love about losing weight!

Catching my reflection in the passenger’s side rear view mirror or anywhere, for that matter. I look happier, and younger without all those chins.

After: No Double Chin After: Several Chins!

Putting on jeans, hot from the dryer, and zipping them with ease.

Sitting down to a meal of perfectly prepared vegetables, whole grains and lean protein and standing up when I finish feeling full and satisfied but not overstuffed.

Moving my body without experiencing the pain of too much weight on my hips, knees and feet.

Actually feeling light on my feet.

Summer of 1990 when my bathing suit was big shorts and a XL tee shirt!

Feeling light on my feet, even with this 20-pound baby I could still step on the scale and weigh less than my "before" picture.

Eating my favorite treats without fear of losing control or guilt that I’m “being bad.”

Fully accountable emotional eating. (Recognizing that sometimes I just want to eat something to feel better and it’s okay. I can handle it )

"I think I need a little ice cream to get through this and it's okay. I'll count it!"

Shopping and smiling when I look in the fitting room mirror.

Getting up and down from the floor with ease to play with my favorite babies and toddlers.

If I hadn't lost weight in a way that was livable for maintaining the loss, I'd never have been able to get on the floor to play with an adorable grandson!

Taking the dog for a walk and comfortably extending it by a mile or more so that he gets adequate exercise to be better behaved.

This dog is nervous if he doesn't get enough exercise. The weather is a challenge, but my weight isn't!

BecauseĀ losing and maintaining is all the same. If I stop doing what I did to lose weight, I’ll gain it. That includes celebrating everything I love about losing weight which basically means living a healthier lifestyle and loving it!
